Location: The Department of Apurimac is located in the southern central area of Peru. It limits with the Departments of Arequipa, Ayacucho and Cusco.
Orography: The relief, in which the Huaso mountain range stands out, is very rugged because it is located in the heart of the Andes, with 90% of territory at an altitude above 3,000 meters.
Climate: mild and dry. The rainy season is from November to April.

The Department of Apurimac is one of the least explore and well-known territories of the Peruvian Andes despite offering spectacular natural attractions for tourism. These places of natural interest constitute the base of the different tourist routes that can be carried out due to its geography.
The two main cities, Abancay and Andahuaylas, are the starting points to visit some of the wonders that nature has created, in this wild area in the center of Peru: the Apurimac River Canyon, The Ampay National Santuary, the Atone Forest of Pampachiri and the cerro Pancula, or the Pacucha Lagoon among others.
THE CITY OF ABANCAY AND ITS SURROUNDINGS
The capital of the Department of Apurimac, known as the City of eternal spring, is located in a valley at an altitude of 2,378 meters above sea level. The climate in this area is temperate and very healthy, with an average annual temperature that ranges between 18 an 20 °C, with the rainiest months being January, February and March.
The main tourist attraction of Abancay is the National Santuary of Ampay, a Nature Reserve with a protected area of 33,685 hectares. In the community of Concacha, within the District of Curahuasi, is the Inca archaeological site of Saywite. In the district is also located the small town of Curahuasi, World City of Anis, which is the starting point to observe the flight of a legendary bird: The Andean Condor.
THE CITY OF ANDAHUAYLAS AND ITS SURROUNDINGS
Andahuaylas is the second city in order of importance within the department of Apurimac. It is located 135 Km. of Abancay on the road that goes from Cusco to Ayacucho.
This mall mountain town has average altitudes of 2,929meters above sea level. Its climate is temperate most of the year, although in the month of June the cold intensifies; the rainiest months are January, February and March.

In the vicinity of Andahuaylas is the District of Pacucha, where the two main tourist resources of Andahuaylas are located:
Pacucha Lagoon: Natural area
Sondor: Chanka and Inca archaeological complex among the different festivities that are celebrated in this area, the epic Chanca or Sondor Raymi stands out, a ceremony that takes place on June 19 in the ruins of Sondor and whose staging is similar to that of the Inty Raymi celebrated in Cusco.
PAMPACHIRI
Is a small town located at 3,362 meters above sea level and 105 Km. away from Andahuaylas on the road to Nazca. The District where it is located is considered one of the most rugged and beautiful Andean paradises in the country, highlighting among its tourist attractions the magnificent Stone Forest of Pancula.
