Location: The Department of Amazonas is located in the north of the country. Its limits are: Ecuador in the north, the Departments of Loreto and San Martín in the east, Cajamarca in the west and La Libertad in the south.
Climate: Amazonas is located in an area where high environmental humidity prevails, with temperatures reaching up to 40°C. In the southern areas the climate is more rigorous, characteristic of mountain areas.
Area: 39,249 square kilometers.
Capital: Chachapoyas It is located at an altitude of 2.335 meters above sea level.
TOURISTIC OFFER
The main tourist attractions of the Department of Amazonas is the mysterious city of Kuelap, a pre-Inca archaeological site located near Chachapoyas, near the Utcubamba River, at 3,100 meters above sea level. In the vicinity of Chachapoyas you can visit others less important archaeological remains.
Within the Department of Amazonas there are other places of tourist interest, mainly practically virgin rain forests, but also the Marañon River canyon and numerous archaeological sites that are unexcavated and, in many cases, hidden by nature and the passage of time.
