Location: The Department of Loreto is located in the north of the country and is the largest in all of Peru. It limits with Ecuador, Colombia and Brasil, and the Departments of Amazonas, San Martín and Ucayali.
Climate: Tropical, warm, humid and rainy, with an average temperature 28°C, although the maximums reach up to 43°C. It is the Peruvian region with more monthly rainfall.
Area: 368.850 square kilometers.
Capital: Iquitos. It is located at an altitude of 104 meters above sea level.

The main tourist attraction of the Department of Loreto is the immense ecological and nature heritage offered by the jungle and the Amazonas river. The starting point to explore the Department of Loreto is it capital, since Iquitos, in addition to being the largest jungle city in Perú, is the most important economic and communities center in the entire Amazon area. THE AMAZONAS RIVER
The Amazonas river is the longest and mightiest in the world, constituting its 6.700 km. long a backbone that gives life to an immense tropical forest. Gives life to an immense tropical forest. With its many tributaries, it forms a basin that covers a large area of Perú, with Loreto being the Department with the largest area within it.
Within Loreto is possible to carry out numerous river tours and various ecotourism activities and relationships with native communities on the Amazon River, the two main destinations being the Pacaya-Samiria and Allpahuayo-Mishana National Reserves.
