MAIN TOURISTIC ATTRACTIONS 

Location: The Department of Ayacucho is located in the southwestern part of Peru, It limits with the Departments of Arequipa, Apurimac, Cusco, Junín, Huancavelica and Ica.
Orography: Ayacucho is crossed by two mountain ranges that divide it into three different geographical units; these mountain ranges are the Eastern and Western Andes, which gives rise to the presence of high plateaus in the south, mountain ranges in the center and areas of tropical forest in the north.
Climate: The climate changes a lot from one place to another, depending on whether they are jungle, puna or mountain area.
Area: 43,815 square kilometers. Capital: Ayacucho. Located in the central highlands of Peru at 2,731 masl

Pampa Galeras reserve

The main tourist attraction of the Department of Ayacucho, aside from the colonial buildings of its capital, it is varied geographic diversity and the beauty of its landscapes, as well as the mestizo richness of its folklore.

From the point of view of nature, the most outstanding point of tourist interest within Ayacucho is the Pampa Galeras Vicuña Reserve.

THE CITY OF AYACUCHO

Founded in 1539, Ayacucho is a a beautiful colonial city that has numerous tourist attractions including its Plaza de Armas, its museums, palaces and mansions, and above all its innumerable churches.

Ayacucho is known as the Peruvian Seville for its Holy Week festivities, and as the City of the Churches for its numerous temples and beautiful European style mansions.

In total, Ayacucho has 37 colonial churches of Renaissance, Baroque and mestizo styles, with  stone facades and interiors carved in wood and covered with sheets of precious metals. Of all the temples, the most outstanding are the Cathedral, Santo Domingo, San Agustin, San Cristobal, Santa Clara, Santa Teresa, La Compañia, La Merced, San Francisco de Paula and San Francisco de Asis.

PAMPA GALERAS

The Pampa Galeras National Reserve is the main vicuña sanctuary in Peru, and is also one of the largest in the Andes and, by extension, in the entire world.

Pampa Galeras is located in the province of Lucanas, 65 Km. from the town of Puquio and 90 Km. of Nazca. The reserve, located at an altitude between 3,800 and 5,00 meters above sea level, is located between 14°39’ and 14°45’ south latitude and 75° 19’ and 74°27’ west longitude.
